I just got one kick-ass deal on a very good conditioned Jonsereds 70E, only problem is that the guy that I bought it from said that, ' the lining inside the gas tank came off and pieces of it kept clogging the jets in the carb. And he got tired of constantly having to clean it out.' So he found another saw and just let this one sit in his garage and it hasn't been cranked in at least 5 years, bad thing is that he also lost the owner's manual and didn't have any info that he could give me about any of the specs.
Not too bad of a deal especially for just $25, what I need to find out is does anyone know where I might could download a copy of the owner's manual or perhaps tell me a few things about the saw like the gas/oil ratio, where I might can find parts if any are needed and any tips about the saw. My plan is to take apart the carb. And soak it in cleaner, drain the gas tank and run carb/parts cleaner through the tank, already checked the compression so the piston and rings seem to be just fine, and of course I'll change the oil and gaskets as well. Have I missed anything?? Wirewalker74 said: “ My plan is to take apart the carb. Have I missed anything?? Welcome, glad you have such enthusiasm!
Your plan sounds like a good one - it should yield some good results. If you would spend anytime at all using the search function and reading a few posts, you would discover a wealth of knowledge - including links to general Jonsered 70E saw info, the great oil ratio debate, etc. Lots of info here - both good and useful, as well as thick lines of BS founded on opinion rather than experience. Read lots, ask intelligent questions, and formulate your own opinions!
Opcorn: You bought a good saw at a good price! Post some pics! Have I missed anything?? Tank Liner Issues As bama said just go after it with whatever screwdrivers, scrapers, stiff toothbrushes whatever you have. Keep flushing and scraping until all the loose stuff is gone. That's about all you can do short of completely disassembling the entire saw, splitting the cases and cleaning/sandblasting the case halves in the tank area. If you use a decent fuel filter none of the floating tank sealer should make it to the carb anyway. Though it may clog the filter once in a while. Easy enough to fix.
You got an excellent deal on that 70E and they are very solid saws, a bit on the heavy side but good power and torque. Most parts are NLA so if you spot another in your travels, in any condition grab it for parts. But be very careful as this may well lead to CAD!!!
