I recently ordered a repair manual CD for my 2014 1190 Adventure (from KTMTwins ). What the product description doesn't mention is that the CD doesn't contain a readable PDF - just a crappy ProtectDisc DRM-encumbered reader program that embeds Adobe Reader and requires the CD every time you want to read the manual, like a PC game from the 90s.

Since I bought it to read on my Mac laptop/Android tablet on the road, this was pretty frustrating. There's an easy way around it, however, and since there are no EULAs or other click-through disclaimers on the CD I don't feel bad sharing it (and no, I'm not going to redistribute the PDF). This works with the latest version of Adobe Reader. It may work with earlier versions; I don't know. Find a Windows machine with a CD drive if you don't have one.

Put the disc in. Launch the program for your repair manual (in my case it was ENGLISCH/enRM.exe). Listen as the disc spins. Wait until the embedded PDF viewer launches. Leaving it open, go to the folder C: ProgramData. This folder may be hidden; if you can't see it, follow to enable seeing hidden files.

In this directory, there should be a file called 'psfXXXX.tmp' (the actual filename changes from launch to launch). Copy this file somewhere and change its extension to '.pdf'. It is for all the Adventure models from 2013-2016, Art. No.: 3.206.258 dated 01/2016 The OP's suggestion would not work on my Windows 10 desktop-the only machine I still have that has a DVD. (LOL who thought this was a good media to use for this???) There were no such.tmp files in my Program Data folder or in any of the usual places that I could find.

It appears the actual docs are in a huge file with an.flxi entension in the hidden zdata/Content folder on the disk. I was pondering how I was going to extract the files from this when I realized I might just be able to open the manual I wanted from the disk in the way they intended and just print it to.pdf. LOL Worked like a charm (309 pages to PDF at 53KB), and ready for my tablet/phone. I noted that even after the 'printing' was done that the file was still locked by the print spooler for a while, so be patient! You may even have to open the spooler so it will clear itself. EDIT: I should have also noted that there appear to be Android and IOS apps on the disk. I don't have IOS, but on Android you can sideload Flux Player from the disk (or get from Playstore).
