DESCRIPTION This course involves developing reading, writing, grammar, language, and speaking/listening skills. We will apply a variety of reading strategies to make sense of print and non-print texts to understand the human experience, to create products through projects, to accomplish specific tasks, and to develop ideas both orally and in written form. ORGANIZATION- We will read several short stories, novels, perform plays, and develop several writing pieces (narrative, informative and argumentative) for your middle school working portfolio.
We will participate in several activities and work on developing products to represent a deeper understanding of the concepts taught. We will also learn content-grade specific vocabulary terms through Vocabulary Knowledge Ratings (VKR’s) that will help you address every component of The Kentucky Program of Studies/The Common Core State Standards. Common Core State Standard -Language Skills D. ADDITIONAL COURSEWORK Independent Reading- Every six weeks you will be required to read an Accelerated Reader chapter book.
It must contain at least 150+ pages. If there are more than five pages of illustrations, or the book is less than 150 pages, special permission from the teacher must be granted. Other requirements might also involve reading a specific genre.
