Hi, Anyone have any info or ideas, how hard it would be to convert the ra1 to manual? Gettting very annoyed with automatic tranny problems. I'm just getting the 411 right now, it should be a project in a year or so. I was thinking about getting a 92-96 prelude front clip H22a w/LSD manual hydro tranny for about $2500 here in Los Angeles. I know the engine should be a bolt-on application if I have the prelude motor mounts. Since I plan for a front clip, I can somehow bring the wiring harness over if it's feasible, if not I'll just have to cut the wire harness and do some custom wiring for the vtec wire, the knock sensor wire.

The engine should have no problem bolting on to the ra1 chassis. I worry more for the tranny. I need to do some research and find out are pedals exactly the same as the accord or prelude. Because I know on the automatic accord, the place where the clutch pedal would usually be already has some kind of knockout. So all I have to do is cut the hole for the clutch pedal according to the layout imprinted on the firewall.

I need to check to see if the ra1 have that. So once I have the clutch pedal in place, the next problem would be to find a place to mount the shift lever. I'll probably have to custom make some kind of structure to place the stick lever next to the driver seat.

Have it welded down or something. Next problem would be to make sure the shift cables are long enough to reach the tranny, and probably drill a hole in the firewall to bring the shift cable out. Anyone with any input would be great, and appreciated. Stick with your factory harness and modify it. The Prelude harness has the plugs on different sides of the engine bay. You'll only have to add a few wires.

Maybe lengthen a few but other than that, it's easy. Now, pedals are going to be a whole other monster to tackle. As far as I know, not even the JDM RA1 came with a manual, which means you'll have to custom fab the entire pedal bracket setup, pushrod and clutch master mounting. I'm sure the hard lines from the Accord won't work so you'll have to bend them up youself as well.

Cable shifter mounting and routing is the final hurdle. That shifter will be pretty low if you mount to the floor and I don't know if you'd have enough cable to mount it up higher. If/when you start this, keep up updated. I've thought about it but really don't want to put that much work into it just for a 5-speed. I'll spend the money getting the auto built before I do all that.
